The history of Creative Kids Preschool
In July 1996, (Founder & President) Ms. Sandra Christian had the vision to integrate the preschool program she had written and the logo she had drawn, while completing her Early Childhood Education program; into her own preschool center. She already had a name chosen and proceeded to buy a double -wide portable at the back of Colebrook United Church on Panorama Ridge, Surrey.
Sandra took the small amount of money she had and proceeded to spruce up the recently purchased portable, in order to open for the first day of Preschool, September 1996. To this day, 25 years later; we are still Creative Kids and growing! We have since trademarked our corporate logo across North America. You may recognize the name SLC Learning Centers Inc. within the organization, as that is our corporate name that derives from “Sandra Lee Christian”.
It became apparent that Sandra had a passion for teaching preschool children and was very personally connected to all the children and families that came through her door. Starting with morning only preschool classes, soon we were getting calls for more children to attend Creative Kids. Within our first year, we added an afternoon preschool class for both 3 yr. old (Tues/Thurs) and 4 yr. old (M/W/F) children.
Year by year at registration time, parents would line up in the wee hours just to get a spot for their child the following year. Word was spreading throughout Surrey, Cloverdale and Langley that a teacher was providing a preschool program in a nurturing environment that families wanted to be a part of!
The two-year progressive preschool program was recognized by many professionals in the E.C.E. field, Kindergarten teachers, the community and the families we served. We truly felt like we were “Planting the Seed for Further Education” TM
By 2010 we had three locations and 4 separate programs. Families were learning, enjoying and being cared for through our Preschool, Ready to Read, Junior Kindergarten and Before & After School programs. Sandra was asked at the time, what is your next goal? The answer was clear, “time to build a Creative Kids center” and there was the start of branding and building new Creative Kids centers.
In September 2011, we opened our very first center in Rosemary Heights, South Surrey and the community embraced us with open arms. Since then, we have built 8 more Creative Kids centers ranging in size from 4000 sqft to almost 11,000 sqft. Our largest center – Morgan Crossing, has 27 staff and 200 families enrolled. We have since added more programs, such as Infant, Toddler, Educational Child Care, Extended Preschool and Summer/Winter/Spring Break camps for both Preschool & School Age children. These have been such exciting years for Creative Kids to say the least!
Creative Kids prides itself for being an organization that has a personal connection to our children, our teachers, our families and our community. Working closely with parents through a positive and unhurried atmosphere, we strive to develop the child’s interest in learning. Our highly qualified teachers strive to offer a fun, social and stimulating academic program. We aim to provide early learning skills, appropriate social skills and let each child explore, play and be as CREATIVE as they want to be in a safe, loving environment.
We take pride as an organization that all of our centers are operated and managed under our company and with the originating founder who is active in the day to day operations.
We have been approached to franchise our brand, however; we as an organization feel as though the only way to ensure our high standards and quality of care, is by remaining a privately owned and operated company.
Our ability to grow and create a loving learning environment is truly due to our extraordinary team of people. The Creative Kids vision of “Planting the Seed for Further Education” TM is truly embraced by the entire Creative Kids Family.
As we continue to grow, we continue to be grounded by our originating roots and are humbled by the continued support of all the families and the communities we service. Thank you.
